What are the Bluetooth network and its types

Bluetooth network is called the system where many Bluetooth users are connected and communicating? These networks mainly consist of two main elements, the first Master and the second Slave.

There are mainly two types of network topologies that are given more importance in Bluetooth.

  • 1) Piconet
  • 2) Scatternet

PiconetPiconet is the form when one master and one slave are available, or one master and multiple slaves are available. A maximum of 7 active slaves can only remain in the piconet. Therefore, a maximum of 8 maximum devices can communicate together in a small network and which is called a piconet. Slaves transmit only when the master Bluetooth device requests them. About 255 slaves are always available in the parking state.

The master for transmission pollutes active slaves. Each station receives only an 8 bit parked address. Therefore a total of 255 parked slaves is only possible in a piconet. This parked station can join only within 2 ms. All other stations may take time to join. Only ten such piconets are found in a designated Bluetooth radio coverage area.

ScatternetCombinations of multiple Piconets are called Scatternet. A device can participate in various piconets. It has to be timeshare and synchronized with the master of the current piconet.

It supports data rates that are based on different versions, which is something like 720 kbps to 24 Mbps. They can cover distances ranging from 1 to 100 meters which depends on which power class of the Bluetooth device they support.
